2020 Season Updates

July 1, 2020

We have updated our COVID 19 Response Plan as of July 1st. Please click here for details!

Programs Update as of June 1st

June 1, 2020

Dear Sail Sand Point Community

Greetings from Lake Washington. To say this has been an unusual, difficult and unsettling time would be an understatement and our thoughts are with all those affected by the ongoing public health crisis and so many other disruptions and challenges which 2020 has brought to our lives. At Sail Sand Point we are grateful to everyone who has sacrificed to help us ‘flatten the curve’ and has allowed us to begin the gradual re-opening that we are planning. We hope that over the coming months we can bring joy to those that participate, safely, in the offerings that we have in store.

Update as of June 1st, 2020. Please visit the website regularly for more updates.

Facility:

  • The Sail Sand Point office and our facilities will be re-opening on June 8th 2020. Staff will be returning to the site in shifts however the office, shop and boathouse will remain closed to volunteers and visitors. We will respond to general inquiries at info@sailsandpoint.org and more specific questions should be directed to the Executive Director, Seth Muir at seth@sailsandpoint.org
  • The Boatyard will remain open for tenants who must practice strict physical distancing and hygiene measures when on site. Staff will be able to assist in boatyard needs or emergencies during business hours if physical distance is maintained. Please email the Waterfront Director: jonathan@sailsandpoint.org with any boatyard needs or questions.
  • We will begin a staged re-opening of Open Boating (OB) on June 8th as we test the waters safely. Open Boating will look different than it has in past years. During this initial stage Open Boating will allow for family/household units to rent equipment for a two-week period, for a fee (in addition to any current annual pass held). Families/households will have exclusive use of their reserved equipment during the two-week period. There are additional specifics to read and understand on the OB website if this opportunity interests you during the month of June.

To reserve a boat from June 8-21 register now at: https://forms.gle/qR7EXKVMBX8Q7Dww9

OB will initially utilize our normal ‘spring’ hours: Friday-Monday from 1:30pm on the weekdays and 11am on weekends, to 8:30pm. More hours and opportunities will be added as new procedures and logistics allow. If there are unanswered questions after reading the Open Boating page on the website, please contact nino@sailsandpoint.org.

Camps/Classes:

  • All adult classes and all summer camps scheduled to begin prior to July 6th are cancelled at this time. Registrants of these classes were contacted to transfer to a later date or to receive a refund. As of today, June 1st, all participants who had not contacted us to inquire about transferring have been automatically refunded, and their registrations have been cancelled. Please contact info@sailsandpoint.org with any questions.
  • The Full Moon Sails scheduled for June are cancelled.
  • Monday Night Racing is postponed until further notice.
  • Summer Race Team activities will continue to proceed in an online capacity. In-person practices are postponed at this time.

A note about refunds: As mentioned above, Registrants for camps and classes that have been cancelled due to COVID-19 have, as of June 1st, all been issued a full refund, less 5.93%. This is not a cancellation fee, but is the amount that Active Network charges us at the time of purchase. Active Network is the registration system through which all bookings are managed, and doubles as the payment processor. As a small non-profit organization, SSP made the decision to withhold this 5.93% from refunds as a means to minimize the impact to our operating budget, which has been significantly effected by the volume of refunds being issued. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We understand that we are all in this together, and welcome your feedback.

Thank you for your partnership as we navigate these unprecedented times.

Seth Muir, SSP Executive Director

Spring/Summer Programs Updates & Cancellations

May 6, 2020

Dear Sail Sand Point community,

Thanks to all our efforts Governor Inslee and the State of Washington have begun reducing restrictions on certain activities but have kept a “Stay home, stay healthy” proclamation in place until at least May 31st. Sail Sand Point is committed to the health and well-being of our community, and thus, while Washington State boating and fishing activities have begun re-opening this month, we will not be re-opening our program until proper guidelines and procedures are in place. As of May 5th, 2020 the following operational changes are necessitated. Please visit the website regularly for updates.

Facility:

The Sail Sand Point office and all our facilities are closed to the public until at least June 8th, 2020. The office, shop and boathouse will remain closed to volunteers and visitors. We will respond to general inquiries at info@sailsandpoint.org. More specific questions about these closures should be directed to the Executive Director, Seth Muir: seth@sailsandpoint.org

The Boatyard will remain open for tenants. However, the public bathrooms are not available for use at this time, due to Parks closure of these facilities. Tenants must practice strict physical distancing and hygiene measures when in the boatyard and onsite. Staff will be onsite in a limited capacity during the month of May, and will be able to assist in boatyard needs or emergencies if physical distance is maintained. Please email the Waterfront Director: jonathan@sailsandpoint.org with any boatyard needs or questions.

Our intention is to resume Open Boating slowly and safely in compliance with State, County and City guidelines aligning with the start of Washington State’s Re-opening PHASE 2 on or around June 8th. Our initial offerings and hours will be limited as we test the waters safely. We intend to initially utilize our normal ‘spring’ hours: Friday-Monday from 1:30pm on the weekdays and 11am on weekends, to 8:30pm . More hours and opportunities will be added as new procedures and logistics allow. Open Boating will look different than it has in past years. More information will be available on our website as we get closer to opening this program.

Camps/Classes:

All adult classes scheduled to begin prior to July 6th are cancelled at this time. Registrants of these classes will be contacted to transfer to a later date or to receive a refund*.

All summer camps scheduled to begin prior to July 6th are cancelled at this time. Registrants of these camps will be contacted to transfer to a later date or to receive a refund*.

The Season Kickoff Party scheduled for May 16th has been cancelled.

The Full Moon Sails scheduled for May and June are cancelled.

Monday Night Racing is postponed until further notice.

Summer Race Team activities scheduled to begin the week of May 18th will proceed in an online capacity. In-person practices are postponed at this time.

* Participants who have already registered for programs which are now cancelled will be notified by email and can contact info@sailsandpoint.org with questions. For all programs cancelled by SSP you have two options:

1) You may transfer your registration to another class or camp that is being held at a future date, and we will waive the transfer fee. Note: due to high demand, there are very few spots still available in summer camps and a transfer will not be possible in many cases.

2) We can offer you a refund.* That said, Sail Sand Point is a small non-profit and the loss of revenues from these programs is creating significant challenges to our operating budget. If you are in a position to consider accepting a partial refund and donating some of your tuition to help us weather this storm, it would be greatly appreciated. There is absolutely no pressure to do so, we’re happy to refund for whatever amount you’d like and we hope you’ll come join us for a class once this is all over. If you would like a full refund, do nothing. On May 29th your tuition will be fully refunded.* If you would like to turn some of your tuition into a donation or if you need your refund sooner, please contact info@sailsandpoint.org

Thank you for your partnership as we navigate these unprecedented times.

Seth Muir, SSP Executive Director

*Due to the immense volume being issued, at this time refunds will be less processing fees. This is an effort to minimize the blow to Sail Sand Point’s operating budget, so that we can best continue to serve our community and pursue our mission of bringing the joy and life-enhancing benefits of sailing and small boats to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. If you have questions or concerns about this policy, please reach out to us at the above email address.

  • You may transfer your registration to another course offering that is being held at a future date, and we will waive the transfer fee.
  • We can offer you a 100% refund. That said, Sail Sand Point is a small non-profit and the loss of revenues from these programs is creating significant challenges to our operating budget.
