VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS

Sail Sand Point thrives on the enthusiasm, time, and expertise donated by our community.

Our volunteer program allows anyone to get involved at SSP, become part of our community, AND earn Open Boating rental time! Volunteers help with a wide variety of projects throughout the year, ranging from facility and boat maintenance to marketing and office assistance.

Volunteers may donate their time to ongoing projects or participate in one-day events as often as they’d like. In return, volunteers receive one hour of Open Boating rental time for every three hours of volunteer service.

ADULT VOLUNTEERS

An opportunity for people 18+ to support SSP by helping with a variety of projects year-round.

SUMMER SAIL CAMP VOLUNTEERS

An opportunity for youth 14+ to work in a professional sailing instruction environment by supporting the summer camps and outreach programs at Sail Sand Point.

With volunteers forming such an important part of the organization, we believe that all volunteers have a special responsibility to adhere to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in representing SSP and fulfilling our mission.

Please review our Volunteer Handbook for a full overview of our volunteer polices and procedures.

Adult Volunteers

No training or sailing experience is necessary to participate! Some volunteer areas or special events may require training which Sail Sand Point will provide.

By filling out the application form, volunteers (18+) grant Sail Sand Point permission to run a Washington State background check to ensure the safety of our program participants, volunteers, users, and staff.

Submitting an adult volunteer application will create an online volunteer account with MyImpact.

Once your application is approved by SSP staff, you can use MyImpact to view volunteer opportunities, sign up for shifts, and log your hours!

Logging your hours not only benefits you, it also supports Sail Sand Point‘s annual Public Benefit which helps to offset operating costs for the organization. You can log hours online or in-person in the office.

All volunteers need to have a current participant agreement on file at SSP.

Summer Sail Camp Volunteers

Sail Sand Point’s Summer Sail Camp Volunteer program offers young adults the opportunity to work in a professional sailing instruction environment by supporting the summer camps and outreach programs at Sail Sand Point.

Logging your hours not only benefits you, it also supports Sail Sand Point‘s annual Public Benefit which helps to offset operating costs for the organization. You can log hours online or in-person in the office.

They assist the camp instructors with setting up for classes and clean up each day, provide support to instructors, including but not limited to playing games with kids, taking kids to the restrooms, encouraging kids during the swim check, providing assistance to kids that need additional attention, and preparing and teaching lessons at the discretion of the instructor, among other exciting and varying responsibilities that change on a daily basis!

This is a great way for former or current Sail Sand Point campers to use their knowledge to help improve camps and activities, as well as a good next step in the pathway to becoming a sailing instructor.

Summer Sail Camp Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, have taken three years of camp or equivalent, be reliable, have a good attitude about working, and be enthusiastic about sharing their love of sailing! Sail Sand Point requests a commitment of at least two weeks over the course of the summer, Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm.
