Now in its 15th year(!), Summer Sailstice was founded in 2001 as a global, annual celebration of sailing held on the weekend nearest to the summer solstice. The goal of Sailstice is to unite people and communities around the world in a common and inspiring purpose that celebrates and helps new people discover sailing. Sailstice also strives to inform and mobilize sailors, their families, and communities to enjoy and conserve the beauty of the oceans and bodies of water while raising awareness for the impact that humans have on the marine environment and wildlife. This year, Sailstice falls on Saturday, June 20th. Sail Sand Point will be hosting our first Summer Sailstice event, and we are excited to be open from sunrise to sunset in order to celebrate the longest day of the year to its fullest extent! The fun will begin at around 5:11 AM, when sunrise is expected, and will continue until sunset at 9:11 PM! The fun will include:
-From sunrise to when Open Boating hours begin, season pass holders will be able to take out boats that they are checked out on.
-Free keelboat rides
-Free Refresher classes
-Food trucks on site
-Environmental education and sailing related shoreside activities for kids
By participating in the Summer Sailstice celebration, Sail Sand Point hopes to continue to celebrate sailing culture, while also helping others discover a love of sailing and the water, connecting with each other and connecting to the marine environment that we enjoy and sail in.
