Dear Sail Sand Point community,
Thanks to all our efforts Governor Inslee and the State of Washington have begun reducing restrictions on certain activities but have kept a “Stay home, stay healthy” proclamation in place until at least May 31st. Sail Sand Point is committed to the health and well-being of our community, and thus, while Washington State boating and fishing activities have begun re-opening this month, we will not be re-opening our program until proper guidelines and procedures are in place. As of May 5th, 2020 the following operational changes are necessitated. Please visit the website regularly for updates.
Facility:
The Sail Sand Point office and all our facilities are closed to the public until at least June 8th, 2020. The office, shop and boathouse will remain closed to volunteers and visitors. We will respond to general inquiries at info@sailsandpoint.org. More specific questions about these closures should be directed to the Executive Director, Seth Muir: seth@sailsandpoint.org
The Boatyard will remain open for tenants. However, the public bathrooms are not available for use at this time, due to Parks closure of these facilities. Tenants must practice strict physical distancing and hygiene measures when in the boatyard and onsite. Staff will be onsite in a limited capacity during the month of May, and will be able to assist in boatyard needs or emergencies if physical distance is maintained. Please email the Waterfront Director: jonathan@sailsandpoint.org with any boatyard needs or questions.
Our intention is to resume Open Boating slowly and safely in compliance with State, County and City guidelines aligning with the start of Washington State’s Re-opening PHASE 2 on or around June 8th. Our initial offerings and hours will be limited as we test the waters safely. We intend to initially utilize our normal ‘spring’ hours: Friday-Monday from 1:30pm on the weekdays and 11am on weekends, to 8:30pm . More hours and opportunities will be added as new procedures and logistics allow. Open Boating will look different than it has in past years. More information will be available on our website as we get closer to opening this program.
Camps/Classes:
All adult classes scheduled to begin prior to July 6th are cancelled at this time. Registrants of these classes will be contacted to transfer to a later date or to receive a refund*.
All summer camps scheduled to begin prior to July 6th are cancelled at this time. Registrants of these camps will be contacted to transfer to a later date or to receive a refund*.
The Season Kickoff Party scheduled for May 16th has been cancelled.
The Full Moon Sails scheduled for May and June are cancelled.
Monday Night Racing is postponed until further notice.
Summer Race Team activities scheduled to begin the week of May 18th will proceed in an online capacity. In-person practices are postponed at this time.
* Participants who have already registered for programs which are now cancelled will be notified by email and can contact info@sailsandpoint.org with questions. For all programs cancelled by SSP you have two options:
1) You may transfer your registration to another class or camp that is being held at a future date, and we will waive the transfer fee. Note: due to high demand, there are very few spots still available in summer camps and a transfer will not be possible in many cases.
2) We can offer you a refund.* That said, Sail Sand Point is a small non-profit and the loss of revenues from these programs is creating significant challenges to our operating budget. If you are in a position to consider accepting a partial refund and donating some of your tuition to help us weather this storm, it would be greatly appreciated. There is absolutely no pressure to do so, we’re happy to refund for whatever amount you’d like and we hope you’ll come join us for a class once this is all over. If you would like a full refund, do nothing. On May 29th your tuition will be fully refunded.* If you would like to turn some of your tuition into a donation or if you need your refund sooner, please contact info@sailsandpoint.org
Thank you for your partnership as we navigate these unprecedented times.
Seth Muir, SSP Executive Director
*Due to the immense volume being issued, at this time refunds will be less processing fees. This is an effort to minimize the blow to Sail Sand Point’s operating budget, so that we can best continue to serve our community and pursue our mission of bringing the joy and life-enhancing benefits of sailing and small boats to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. If you have questions or concerns about this policy, please reach out to us at the above email address.
