Sail Sand Point Awarded 52 Scholarships in 2011

With just 2 weeks left of summer programs, Sail Sand Point reached and passed its goal of awarding 50 youth and adult scholarships in 2011.

In addition to the 52 class scholarships, SSP also hosted 6 one day outreach programs for the Theodore (2 groups), Trinity Day Camp, Santos Place, Brettler Family Place and Magnuson Community Center.

Thank you to everyone in the community who helped get the word out about our scholarships.  We look forward to doing even more in 2012!

NEW  Navigation Classes Starting Nov. 30th

SSP is excited to announce a NEW series of navigation classes that will be taught by Captain Andy Berenson.  Whether you're an open water boater or keep your cruising to the waters of Lake Washington, navigation is both an interesting and useful skill to have.

Charting & Plotting

November 30th & December 7th, 6pm-9pm, $90

This class will teach you how to read those fancy boat charts you keep stowed aboard in case your electronic navigation system goes out.  Participants will learn about chart reading, tides & currents, position fixing and get to practice plotting a course.

Electronic Navigation

December 14th, 6pm-9pm, $45

Electronic navigation will focus on GPS and radar including how they work, how to use them and defining terminology.  This is a good class for someone who is brand new to electronic navigation as well as for someone who knows basic functions of GPS and radar but is looking to improve and round out their knowledge.

Celestial Navigation: Introduction for the Curious

December 21st, 6pm-9pm, $45

What is celestial navigation, why is it still practiced and how does it work?  This class will answer all those questions, and teach participants about how the stars move.

For more information about any of the classes or to sign up call (206) 525-8782.  Sign up for all 3 classes for just $160.

Sail Sand Point was named as one of the nine US Sailing Sanctioned Community Sailing Centers! = That just demonstrates what we all already know: what we are doing here is really good and really important, and you are a big part of that.
