Notice of Race

Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle and Sail Sand Point
September 25 – 26, 2010


1 RULES

The regatta will be governed by ‘rules’ as defined by the current Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of US SAILING, and the class rules of the participating classes (except as any of these are altered by the Sailing Instructions), the rules of the Northwest Youth Racing Circuit (NWYRC), this Notice of Race and by the Sailing Instructions.

2 ALTERATIONS OF CLASS RULES
The class rules will be used except that RRS 60.1 (a) is changed to prohibit a boat from protesting another boat for an alleged breach of a class rule requiring class membership or imposing a weight limit.

3 CLASSES
Any classes with five or more registered boats will receive their own start. Anticipated classes include Optimist (all divisions), Laser Radial, Laser, Vanguard 15, 29er, Hobie Wave and Hobie 16.

4 ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY
Sailors eligible to compete under their class rules and must not turn or have turned 20 or more years of age in 2010 are eligible for this event, including and excepting the following:

In the Optimist Class: White fleet is for skippers who, on the first day of the regatta, are 10 and under. Blue fleet is for skippers who are 11 or 12. Red fleet is for skippers who are 13, 14, or 15.

In the Hobie 16 fleet, sailors must not have reached their 21st birthday on the first day of the regatta.

5 APPLICATION

Application shall be made by completing the entry form, and returning it with one check for the entry fee payable to Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle. Alternatively, registrations and payment will be accepted through the Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle web site at
http://www.cycseattle.org/reg_form.html. When registering on-line indicate the "category" as Lake Racing and the "series" as Octoberfest. Include the name of any crew in the space for additional information. Also include birthdates for all competitors. Your sail number is required to register on-line. Credit cards are accepted. On-line registrants must check-in at the event and all sailors must complete and sign the waiver of liability below for their entry to be complete. Online registration closes at 4:00 PM Thursday, Sept. 23.

6 FEES

The entry fee for all classes is $50.00 US per competitor in advance. Registration on day of Regatta is $55 Per competitor. The entry fee includes lunches on both days of racing, as well as snacks, stuff, and trophies. The entry fee, payable to Corinthian Yacht Club, must be included with the entry form or on-line entry. Early entry is appreciated.
7 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Saturday, Sept 25
09:00 hrs Registration and check-in
10:00 hrs Skipper’s meeting
10:30 hrs Warning signal for first race of the series
Plan on sailing into the evening, wind permitting

Sunday, Sep 26
1030 hrs Warning signal for day’s first race
1700 hrs or sooner if possible Awards presentation

8 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

The sailing instructions will be available at registration.

9 MEASUREMENT

Each competitor will be responsible for their boats being in compliance with the class rules.



10 SCORING

The Low-Point Scoring System, Appendix A of the racing rules, will apply for all classes. 1 race completed will constitute a series. If 5 or more races are sailed, a boat’s worst score shall be discarded.

11 PRIZES

Prizes will be awarded to competitors placing first through third in all divisions where five or more boats are pre-registered. Additional prizes may be awarded. Sportsmanship and other inspirational prizes may be awarded based on judging by the race and event committee during the event.

12 SAFETY

A Coast Guard-approved PFD must be worn and fully secured at all times while afloat, except for brief periods while adding or removing clothing. Whistles permanently attached to the PFDs are recommended. This amends rule 40.

13 COACHES

Coaches may be asked to register at the event.

EVENT LOCATION

The event will held near Sail Sand Point in Magnuson Park:

Sail Sand Point is located north of the U of W on the western shore of Lake Washington.

From the South: Take I-5 North through downtown Seattle and across the ship canal bridge. Take the 65th Street exit #170 and go north across Ravenna Blvd. to 65th Street. Turn right on 65th Street. *(See directions below.)

From the North: Take I-5 South to the NE 65th Street exit #171. Go over the freeway to the first light. Turn right on Roosevelt Way, then left on 65th Street. *(See directions below.)

*After turning onto NE 65th Street, go east for about 3.5 miles till you reach the stop light at Sand Point Way NE. The entrance to Magnuson Park will be directly ahead. Cross Sand Point Way into the park. Follow signs to the swim beaches. Sailors will launch from the beach. You will pass a boat ramp in route which can be used for coach boats. However there is no tie-up space at the ramp. Boats should be launched and moved to the beach.


A large city event is planned for the entire weekend. Please plan to arrive early.
