Who needs a Medical/Liability Waiver?
Every single person who sails on a boat at Sail Sand Point must complete a Medical/Liability Waiver for the current year. For more information, see the Documents page.

Which sailing class should my child take?
Class placement for youth is very important and depends greatly on age, weight, and ability. Instructions to help you decide which class is right for your child are on the Youth Sailing page.

How do I rent a boat?
We have a program for the community called “Open Boating” through which proficient sailors may check-out boats during Open Boating hours. For people who want to test out our boats before committing to a season pass or a multi-use punch card, we have single use punch cards. For more information, see the Open Boating page.

What kinds of boats do you have? Do you have boats that are not sailboats?
Our main fleet consists of Optimists, Hunter 140's, Lasers, Flying Juniors, and Hobie Waves. Thanks to a partnership with REI we also have kayaks and stand up paddleboards for use.

Can I store my boat at SSP?
Yes. See the Boat Storage page for more information.

“I want to learn how to sail…”
We have lots of classes for youth and adults who are just beginning to sail. Go to the Youth and Adult Sailing Programs page to read about these classes. We also offer reasonably-priced Private Lessons if our upcoming classes don't work with your schedule--or you just want some one-on-one instruction. All SSP classes and lessons are taught by US SAILING Certified Instructors.

“I already know how to sail and just want to go sailing!”
You need to come down to SSP to get an Open Boating pass.

“I need a refresher on how to sail…”
You have two great options. First, look at the Adult Sailing Schedule page to see if there is an upcoming “Adult Specialty Refresher” class that works with your schedule. This is a one-time, group lesson that will help you brush up your sailing skills in no time! If you can’t take a Refresher class, call the SSP office at 206.525.8782 to request a Private Lessons with one of our US SAILING certified instructors.

“I’d like to improve my sailing skills…”
We offer some Intermediate and Advanced classes, especially for youth. Read through descriptions of these classes on the Youth Sailing and Adult Sailing pages. Our US SAILING Certified Instructors are also happy to tailor a Private Lessons to your interests. Of course, the best way to improve is to practice, so sign up for Open Boating and come down as often as you’d like! If you are comfortable sailing by yourself and would like to see what racing is all about, check out SPYS & SPOT (for youth) or Monday Night Racing (for adults).
