Most of these classes are designed for beginners or for people who have not sailed in a long time. Intermediate lessons are designed for people who have had some lessons. Lessons are taught by US SAILING certified instructors. By the end of these classes, most students get certified to use our boats for Open Sailing.

July 7 - July 16 M, W, F 6:00-8:30

Specialty Classes (One Time Lessons)

Refresher:   Has it been a while since you got your feet wet? This class is designed for people who want to have a brief refresher in sailing before open sailing starts. We will go over rigging a Hunter 140, Tacking, Gybing, Landing and Leaving a Dock and Capsize recovery. At the end of the class students wishing to take the check out for the Hunter 140 will be given an opportunity to do so. Class is limited to 8 students, minimum is 4.

Adult Racing Speciality:Lesiurely sailing is a lot of fun. The sunsets, the comraderie, the gentle breezes... but you want more, don't you? You want to kick it up a big notch and challenge yourself to become a better sailor and to learn new skills. Well, start it here. Get the basics of rules and the basics of strategy, then come out every Monday night and get better and better and better... Limited to 12 students, minimum is 6..

Laser Sailing:Do you know how to sail, but are tired of waiting to find crew to go sailing? Want to go faster? Like being wet? The laser is for you. This boat is highly responsive, very fast, and a whole lot of fun. We will learn (or review) how to rig it, how to get it moving, and how to sail this great racing machine. Limited to 8 students, minimum is 4.

Hobie Waves: Some people say it's the logical evolution of the sail boat... the multi-hull. Come learn about the Hobie Waves and how these quick little boats can be the best things you've hopped on. They are quick and easy to sail and have room for friends. Limited to 6, minimum is 4.

Hobie 16: This course is designed to give people who already know how to sail a chance to use and check out in the Hobie 16. Some knowledge of Catamarans would be useful.

Safe Powerboat Handling:

We are offering two Youth Classes and two Adult Classes over the course of the summer. Our Powerboat program uses the US Sailing curriculum and is NASBLA approved (this means it gets you your license). We can also set up courses to meet your needs if you have at least 4 people interested.

A word about Powerboats:

The State of Washington has made Powerboat Licenses manditory for anyone under the age of 55 (as of last year) with a very generous phase-in program. While Sail Sand Point is a Small Boat Sailing Program, we also take powerboating very seriously.

Private Lessons are $100 for one or two people in a single boat. Additional boats can be added at $100 per boat. If you are interested, just call the office and we will set one up for you based on your schedule!

NOTES ON ADULT CLASSES:

• Anybody can take the beginner class, even if you aren't a beginner, it's always good to be coached!
° Weekday Classes meet from 6:00-8:30pm.
° 3-week classes meet Tuesday and Thursday.

• To take the intermediate class you should have enough sailing experience to maneuver the boat to where you want to go...
• The Hobie Cat class is for people who are very comfortable on a sailboat--you will probably be hanging on a wire!
• The "Mom and Me" classes are an opportunity for a parent/guardian to sail with a child.  The class will be geared toward everyone having a good experience rather than getting as far as possible in sail training.  You only need register yourself for this class, not your child.
